2012 BMW Concept M135i

2012 BMW Concept M135i

AUTO SHOWS: It appears the rumors were true: BMW's M division has had its way with the latest Euro-spec 1 Series hatchback. The result is called the M135i, and it'll make its official debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March, albeit in a so-called "concept" form.

Despite that pesky concept term, we wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this is virtually identical to a production-spec M135i we've been hearing about for some time. Certainly, the car looks production ready: most of the exterior revisions fall in line with similar packages launched as part of the M Performance Automobiles collection. Exterior revisions include a new front fascia and added enlarged air intakes, a sportier looking rear fascia with a cutout for dual exhaust tips, and striking M-design 18-inch alloy wheels.
Tri-color stripes, which match M's distinctive logo, are applied to both the bodyside character lines and the rear liftgate.

BMW assures us this 1 Series isn't all show and no go. Mechanical revisions reportedly include both upgraded brakes and a firmer, M-tuned suspension package - but from there, things get a little sketchy. BMW's release says only that the M135i will boast a "straight six-cylinder...featuring M Performance Twin Power Turbo technology" and an output of more than 300 hp. Early reports suggested the car would use a tweaked version of the 1M's N54 twin-turbo engine, but BMW has confirmed that the car will be powered by a version of the new N55 3.0-liter I-6 , which uses a single twin-scroll turbocharger.

This 1 Series will be the first gasoline-powered addition to the BMW M Performance Automobiles collection, which presently consists of the M550d xDrive, and the X5 and X6 M50d models - all of which are powered by diesel engines.

Sound nifty? Sadly, the M135i as you see it here isn't coming to North America, largely because the F20 1 Series hatchback isn't in BMW North America's product plans. That said, coupe and convertible models based off this architecture almost certainly are, and officials have hinted that the 1 Series would seem like it would work with the new M Performance group. Here's hoping it does - and that some of this package manages to work its way stateside at some point.

2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe

The BMW 640i Gran Coupe is essentially a 5-series BMW that emphasizes sex appeal over practicality. It shares its 116.9-inch wheelbase with the 5-series sedan and its 74.6-inch width with the 6-series coupe. At 197.2 inches (16.4 feet), it's longer than either of those cars and almost as long as a short-wheelbase 7-series. With a roof height of 54.8 inches, it's a substantial 2.8 inches lower than the 5-series and 1.4 inches wider. It seats four adults comfortably, a fifth in a pinch. Its trunk is smaller than the one in the 5-series and no bigger than the one in the 6-series coupe. And its long front overhang, unusual for BMW, scrapes its way up driveways and into gas stations.

It might appear that the 640 Gran Coupe makes no rational sense, but then again, neither do its two principal competitors, the Mercedes-Benz CLS and the Audi A7, both of which are more expensive and less practical than the E-class and A6 sedans, respectively, on which they are based. The fact is that all three of these so-called four-door coupes exist mainly because they look great.

In two dimensions, the BMW doesn't look different enough from other BMW models to really catch your eye, but when you see the Gran Coupe on the road, you'll most certainly notice it. It makes the 5-series look nerdy, the 6-series coupe look busy, and the 7-series look bloated. Like the Z4, this is a Bimmer you need to see in traffic to fully appreciate.

How much more expensive is the 640i Gran Coupe than other BMWs? It starts at a hefty $76,895, which is a very reasonable $2400 premium over a 640i coupe, but it's also some twelve grand over a comparably equipped 535i sedan, which isn't a cheap car to begin with. Start adding options and things get outrageously expensive very quickly. Our almost fully loaded test car's sticker shocks to the tune of well over $100,000, meaning its price premium over a similar 535i is equivalent to the full price of a Volkswagen GTI.

Then again, you can't get a 535i with twenty-inch wheels, full LED headlights, the ever-cool Bang + Olufsen stereo, or the Gran Coupe's leather-lined and contrast-stitched interior. Or the high-output version of BMW's award-winning turbo six. The 640i is the first "40i" version of the N55 single-turbo engine. (Other high-output "40i" cars, as well as the 1-series M Coupe, Z4 sDrive35is, and 335is, have used the N54HP, which is the old twin-turbo engine.) The N55HP uses the Valvetronic variable valve lift system for increased efficiency and, in this application, produces 315 hp (from 5800-6000 rpm) and 300 lb-ft of torque (1600-4500 rpm.)

Bolted to the sport version of the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, the 4190-pound 640i has a first gear short enough to easily smoke the 275-section rear tires and a cruising gear long enough to achieve 30 mpg on the highway (or so BMW estimates). In manual mode, the transmission's shifts are quick and positive enough to rival the best dual-clutch gearboxes, and its torque converter makes off-the-line getaways smoother than any of them. A standard start/stop system helps fuel economy in city traffic (BMW is expecting 20 mpg on the EPA test) and is relatively unobtrusive.

The steering feels more heavily weighted than in the 5-series, but the electric motor mounted on the rack still absorbs most of the steering feel. Our tester's optional Integral Active Steer kills whatever feel is left in exchange for quicker turn-in, a smaller turning circle, and a superfast ratio at parking-lot speeds. As you'd expect, the remainder of the driving experience is highly reminiscent of the 535i, 640i coupe, and 740i with which the Gran Coupe shares its driveline components. That means a perfect driving position, class-leading refinement, excellent handling, and a suspension that does a superb job -- until it hits the bump stops.

Like the other BMWs that use this suspension design, the Gran Coupe rides great at first but then whomps over moderate bumps with slightly too much harshness. All hell breaks loose when you hit the big stuff -- you'll get an impact so harsh you'll think something broke. One highway-speed bump bottomed out the front-right suspension so hard it canceled the cruise control, prompting a message on the instrument panel that the feature would again become available when suitable road conditions returned. For the record, that bump was something that a Mercedes CLS or an Audi A7 would have taken in stride. In fact, most economy cars wouldn't have been seriously bothered by it.

In addition to the hard-as-lead bump stops, the M Sport Package's enormous twenty-inch wheels are likely to blame. They look great, but they're clearly too heavy for the suspension to manage, even with the 640i's standard adaptive dampers. Given our experience in a sport-package-equipped 535i, which suffered from harsh impacts that caused tire damage, we're not that surprised.

The Gran Coupe gets few other demerits: it uses the 640i coupe's seat-mounted seatbelts, which is strange because the B-pillars look thick enough to support an entire house. We suspect owners will get used to this in time, but the seatbelts would be far easier to reach if they were mounted to the pillars. The large glass sunroof tilts but doesn't slide, and when the shade is opened, sunlight glare renders the lower part of the gauge cluster partially illegible. Seeing out back would be a problem except the reverse camera is standard.

Those concerns aside, the 640i Gran Coupe's sumptuous interior makes up for all of it. We've been hoping that BMW would build this car ever since the 2007 CS concept, which previewed its exterior styling and its beautiful, leather-lined cabin. Plans to build the bigger-than-a-7-series CS were scrapped due to the global recession -- but its core concept was resurrected (in smaller form) here as the Gran Coupe. The delay means some of this car's styling has been seen before -- it would have been a more effective brand halo if it had come first. But that doesn't change the fact that the 640i Gran Coupe is a stunning example of how you can take a bunch of off-the-shelf parts, throw caution to the wind, and build a car that's better than any of the products it's based on.

BMW has already announced the 650i Gran Coupe, which uses the new Valvetronic-equipped version of the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8. That reverse-flow brute now makes 445 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, and it'll send power either to the rear or all four wheels. The all-wheel-drive version will be the quicker of the two, getting to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds versus the tire-smoking rear-driver's 4.5. We call overkill -- the 640i feels far faster than its factory-certified 5.4-second 0-to-60-mph time would suggest, and its straight-six music is both aggressive and refined. If you want even more speed, may we suggest you wait for the M6 Gran Coupe. BMW hasn't confirmed it, but it's a no-brainer to build -- and we suspect it would be a better all-around performer than either the M5 or the M6. The idea of good, old-fashioned hydraulic steering (like the M5 and M6 still have) in a sedan with supercar performance and supermodel looks -- made of off-the-shelf parts? Now that's a Gran Idea.

The Story of 40 Years BMW M ‒ The BMW M5

With the successful 3.0 CSL and the iconic M1 BMW propelled itself instantly into the league of high-performance cars, finally able to brand itself as the ‘ultimate driving machine’. Both cars were limited-production, purpose-built sports cars, but a new legend based on a production model was about to be born: the M5.

The BMW E12 made its debut in 1972 and was the first 5-Series BMW made. Within two years after is unveiling BMW presented a special model for the German market. The Motorsport 533i was the first road going car available for customer to receive an upgrade by BMW Motorsport GmbH.

The M533i came with new front and rear spoilers and special striping, and was powered by a 3.2 liter six-cylinder engine derived from the 633CSi (E24) that produced 197hp and 290Nm of torque. With this ‘power treatment’ the Beemer was able to accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in 7.9 seconds and the top speed was 212km/h. From today’s point of view these figures aren’t very impressive, but back in those days the fastest 5-Series available was more than sufficient for blasting on the fast lane of the Autobahn.

A slightly more powerful and faster 5-Series made its debut in 1980. As a high performance version of the mid-size sedan, the BMW E12 M535i was powered by the engine taken from the 635CSi. This 3.4 liter six-cylinder offered an output of 218hp and 310Nm of torque. It was the M535i that signaled a new direction of the cars coming from the BMW Motorsport workshop by paving the way for the M5.

The first BMW M5 was based on the E28 5-Series and made its debut in 1984. The car featured the high revving, straight-six engine which originally powered the M1 sports car. With an output of 286hp, the was a genuine ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’. In fact, with a top speed of 245km/h the M5 was the world’s fastest production sedan. Production ended in 1988 with under 2,200 units built.

Based on the E34 version of the BMW 5-Series, the M5 entered its second generation in 1988. The car was powered by straight-six engine, originally displacing 3.6 and subsequently 3.8 liters, with output increasing first to 315 and later 340hp. Initially the car was able to accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 6.3 seconds. With the increase in displacement the performance was boosted as well, a sprint to 100km/h was now done in 5.7 seconds. The top speed was electronically limited at 250km/h.

When the five-door Touring version of the M5 was introduced in 1992, it was the world’s fastest wagon. It also was BMW M’s first wagon, but at the same time the last hand built M car made. Quite remarkable was the construction of the one-off E34 M5 Cabriolet, which sadly didn’t make it into production as BMW feared it would cannibalize sales of the open 3-Series. Production of the second generation M5 ended in 1995. A total of 12,254 units were made, of which only 891 as the Touring version, making it one of the rarest regular production BMW Motorsport cars.

The third generation M5 (E39) was introduced in 1998. For the first time the car was powered by a highly tuned 5.0 liter V8 engine which provided almost 400hp and 500Nm of torque. The electronically limited top speed was 250km/h, but with the limiter removed the M5 was able to reach 298km/h. Official figures provided by BMW show a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 4.8 seconds, but some people claim this is a conservative figure as the car should be able to accelerate even faster.

An E39 M5 Touring was also considered, one prototype was also built, but BMW decided not to produce it due to financial considerations. Additionally, the Germans weren’t convinced the driving characteristic of this M5 Touring would be on par with the saloon. Eventually a total of 20,482 M5s of the third generation were made before its successor entered the stage: the V10-powered M5.

Designed by Chris Bangle, the BMW M5 (E60) was unveiled in the Autumn of 2004. The world’s first production sedan to feature a V10 petrol engine delivered 507 horsepower and 520Nm of torque, exceeding the mark of 100hp per liter. This enabled the M5 to accelerate to 100km/h in a time of 4.7 seconds, the 200km/h mark was hit after around 15 seconds. Once again the top speed was electronically limited at 250km/h. With the optional M-Drivers-Package the top speed is brought to 305km/h. During its five year run, 20,548 cars were built composing of 19,523 saloons and 1,025 wagons.

The latest version of the M5 made its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year. The F10M M5 is powered by a 4.4 liter biturbo V8 which puts out 560hp and 681Nm of torque. Although not everyone appreciated downsizing of the engine due to environmental regulations, the F10M M5 outperforms its predecessors. The car is lighter and faster, acceleration from standstill to 100km/h slightly increased to 4.4 seconds and the top speed is traditionally limited at 250km/h, but could be raised to 305km/h.

Most noticeable is the fact this car offers a much better handling than the E60 M5, which is reflected in the Nürburgring lap time of 7:55 matching the time set by the Ferrari F430. Just as all previous generations, the M5 is still the benchmark for the competition. This highlights the progress made by BMW M since it all started in 1972, proving that the phrase ‘ultimate driving machine’ has transcended marketing and entered the realm of reality, which we experienced at first-hand in our road test of the 2012 BMW F10M M5.

2012 BMW 650i Coupe

The history of the BMW 6-Series is one which goes back to the 1970's when BMW launched the first 6-Series Coupe. Now, three generations later, we were handed the keys to a black 2012 BMW 650i Coupe for a day of test drives through the city of Rotterdam, one of the biggest naval ports in the world. The correct setting for a drive in what BMW considers to be its top of the range model, expect for the M-Division fettled M6 of course.

The 2+2 coupe invokes adjectives such as elegant, luxurious and high-tech when we attempt to describe the coming together of the interior, exterior and technical aspects. The 650i gets an all-new, aluminum-intensive structure based on that of BMW’s 5- and 7-Series sedans. It lends an improved structural rigidity and keeps weight down as much as possible. The body length is nearly three whole inches longer than before, while the width has also increased by 1.5 inches and it is half an inch lower. This offers more room for rear seat passengers.

The 6-Series was the first BMW model to receive the full LED treatment including driving lights, indication lights, brake lights and rear taillights. The two-door design of the coupe is the basis for the forthcoming Gran Coupe, which will sport a four-door configuration. The front fascia has an aggressive shark-style design to it with its wide kidney grills, sharp-edged front lights and wide air intakes in the lower section of the bumper. At the rear, the new taillights and the rear trunk provide a more harmonious combination with the side and front profile with respect to its predecessor.

The mechanical machismo is provided by BMW’s 400hp twin-turbocharged 4.4 liter V8 engine tucked away at the front of the luxury coupe. The engine is linked by a choice of eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual, both are available at no extra cost. A sprint from standstill to 100km/h is done in a mere 5.0 seconds with the acceleration continuing up to a limited 250km/h.

The forward acceleration of the 650i is combined with the responsiveness of the ZF 8HP70 eight-speed automatic, which shifts quickly, precisely and efficiently via the paddle shifters on the steering wheel or in automatic mode. A slight turbo lag is present when you floor the throttle, but it is not in any way worrying when you take the car for an everyday drive or a road trip across the continent.

Part of the excellent ride quality can be attributed to the adjustable Driving Dynamics Control system with its four different settings. Switching between the settings provides the driver and his/her passengers with an alternation in the throttle input, suspension firmness, shifting and steering. The dampers stiffen, the engine becomes more responsive to the gas pedal, the transmission is quicker to downshift and holds its gears longer. Opting for sport mode also increases the electric power-steering system’s efforts.

The handling and steering are not up to the standards you would expect from a BMW. As discussed before in our road test with the 5-Series, the steering lacks that true direct feeling and does not offer the feedback you would expect from this top of the range model. Still, there are no major hurdles regarding this subject, because the 650i is not designed to be the ultimate cornering hero. This is mainly due to its size and weight. Customers opting for the luxury coupe, should focus on the brand new M6 and its direct steering featuring the latest Servotronic hydraulic system, specifically tuned for the M6.

Inside the cabin, the driver has access to systems such as Surround View, Parking Assistant, BMW Night Vision with pedestrian recognition, Speed Limit Info, Lane Departure Warning System and Lane Change Warning System. The large 10.2 inch high-res display dominates the center console providing access to the multimedia systems. The main screen is flanked by the radio controls, the climate control, the iDrive controller and gear shift lever. Our test car was even fitted with a Bang & Olufsen high-end audio system with 16 speakers for a total of 1,200 watt sound and a dash-mounted tweeter.

All these options are new to the 6-Series and accompanied by an interior design, which is more driver focused than its predecessor. The driving position is excellent and provides easy access to all systems. The seats offer excellent support and have extensions for people with longer legs. The seats at the back are large enough for two medium sized persons, but being a coupe, it doesn’t offer the ultimate levels of space. Those looking for more room at the back should instead take a look at the 550i sedan.

The 2012 BMW 650i Coupe is all that it should be. The improvements with respect to the engine, design and interior refinements make it a wonderful grand tourer, capable of transporting its passengers from A to B in the utmost comfort and refinement. The powerful turbocharged engine is a sheer pleasure for high speed autobahn cruising, while passengers are being treated with the best possible interior gadgetery and a complaint ride.

Video Youtube

This top of the line model within the 6-Series lineup is so composed at highway speeds and easy to drive on twisty country roads – despite its size and weight – that it conjured up fantasies of blasting along the autoroute to a glitzy holiday home in St. Tropez with a beautiful German girl from Munich in the passenger seat, a light breeze waving the trees and a wonderful blue sky overhead. Unlucky as we were, our day inside the 650i was rainy and situated in the largest port in Europe, Rotterdam. What a contrast!

The BMW Zagato Coupe

Ever since the design change of the 2005 BMW 3-series I’ve had a hard time finding many of the vehicle that BMW produced to be attractive. The cars were just too on looking for me and as expensive as they were they seemed like more of a distant towards when choosing a foreign luxury vehicle. Fortunately for 2011-2012 we started to see BMW alter vehicle designs for the better. For BMW’s arrival at the 2012 Concorso d’Eleganza they brought their show pony which will hopefully be an insight into future designs at this BMW Zagato is a German engineered shooting brake with handcrafted Italian skin making for a recipe for brawn and beauty.

The BMW Zagato looks like the BMW Z4 that mated with an Alfa Romeo 4C and the Zagato was the love baby. The styling is sleek and sculpted and shows that a massive amount of time was placed in the coachwork that was being done. BMW wouldn’t admit that anything Z4 was being used on the vehicle but it looks like there is no doubt that this vehicle is built for swingers and other Z4 fans. I certainly hope that BMW takes a hint from this beauty and caters its overall designs to look like this. As Mercedes-Benz gets boxier we see BMW getting sleeker and rounded yet in a good way, not the previous way.

The BMW Zagato simply reiterates the fact that Italians are pretty good at designs. Now engineering is another thing but that is why we get the best of both worlds with a car like this or the Lamborghini Aventador. So if you can give me this vehicle with AWD and a Twin-Scroll Twin Turbo 6-cylinder with 450hp that gets 35 mpg and do it for $30,000 then I will certainly buy this. Oh..wait this is a one-of-a-kind that cost $30,000 for the sculpted fenders alone, well shit I guess I will try and just make this vehicle myself with a Z4 and some cardboard and duct tape.

BMW Planning 1 Series Sedan for 2014?

Try as we might, we just can't get the entire country to get rid of their less useful, but better at avoiding line-of-sight police search (ask an attorney about sedans vs wagons some time) sedans and replace them all with (preferably diesel) hatchbacks. We made all the right moves, but sadly, Americans just don't get efficient packaging. Nor, apparently, do the Chinese.

It's this one-two-punch of preference over style and substance that is causing BMW to rethink their current product line and add a four-door sedan to the 1-Series lineup primarily for the U.S. and China. We've never had the five-door 1 Series here and that severely limits the appeal of this small car and with Mercedes on track to bring the CLA to the US with four-doors and a trunk, sales of the 1 Series will be even more relegated to customers cross-shopping Mustangs instead of luring the next generation of rich guys into the fold.

Unfortunately for those looking for a small, fast, four-door BMW, you'll have to wait until the next-generation of 1 Series due sometime in 2014. Autocar is reporting that this new platform will used shared parts from the 3 Series instead of sharing the new Mini platform as has been rumored. Fingers crossed that they're right.

BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe coming next year - report

We've already heard rumors that BMW is developing a 4-Series Gran Coupe, but new details are starting to emerge about the model.

According to Auto Express, the car will be a four-door coupe that will bridge the gap between the 3- and 5-Series. It will follow the same basic formula as the 6-Series Gran Coupe, so expect it to be based off the 4-Series coupe but have a longer-wheelbase and two rear doors.

Engine options will carryover from the standard model, so expect petrol choices to include a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 184 PS (135 kW / 181 bhp) and 245 PS (180 kW / 241 bhp) as well as a 3.0-liter inline-six with 320 PS (235 kW / 315 bhp).

If everything pans out, the model will be launched late next year and cost approximately £30,000 ($47,175 / €37,300).

BMW named most valuable automotive brand

Market research company Millward Brown has declared that BMW is this year's most valuable automotive brand.

According to the company's BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands list, the German automaker overtook Toyota with an estimated worth of $24.6 (€19.3) billion. Toyota, on the other hand, had a value of $21.8 (€17.1) billion. Rounding out the top three, Mercedes took a podium finish with an estimated value of $16.1 (€12.6) billion.

Speaking with Automotive News, Millward Brown's global brand director Peter Walshe said "As one of the great brands in the world, BMW has been absolutely consistent in the long-term regarding what is meaningfully different about their brand, in highly competitive market places." He added that Toyota's decline was a result from last year's earthquake and tsunami.

2014 BMW M3 / M4 (F80/82) inline-6 turbo engine confirmed

The rumormill has been running in overdrive the past few months regarding the powertrain that will be employed in the next generation BMW M3 (F80) and M4 (F82), but now it appears the mystery has been finally been confirmed.

According to the President of BMW North America, Mr. Ludwig Willisch, who confirmed to BimmerPost.com the news at a recent event, the next generation BMW M3 and M4 will indeed incorporate an inline six-cylinder engine unit and not a V-configuration as previously reported.

BimmerPost reports that, "Mr. Willisch said a V6 configuration was previously considered (including whether a motor based on the current M3's S65 engine minus two cylinders was appropriate), but ultimately ruled out."

The new unit will replace the 4.0-liter V8 that resides in the outgoing model. It has been suggested that it will have a displacement of around 3.0-liters and will feature twin-turbo or tri-turbo technology producing a final output of around 450 PS (331 kW / 444 bhp).

The new generation also sees the introduction of the M4 Coupe and convertible which are essentially re-badged versions of the M3 bodystyles. It is part of BMW's new naming strategy that will also see the introduction of the 2-series and M2.

Word on the street suggests the new BMW M3 will be unveiled either late 2013 or early 2014.

Updated BMW 5-Series gets Optional Customizable Instrument Panel

BMW has announced that its 5 Series for a new model year, the Touring or station wagon and Grand Turismo cars would get a range of upgrades. Now, the company has already presented those upgrades, starting with the new multifunction instrument display to the mechanical update.

BMW 4-Series 2014

There is no doubt that BMW is the target for other car manufacturers as they continue to develop vehicles that that is standard for engineering. Though we may not like the majority of the drivers and their habits behind the wheel we can’t doubt the fact that we to would be driving the vehicle. The BMW 3-Series has been a massive sales success for the company and with its updated looks and more efficient powertrain we look to see the vehicle continue on as a solid staple for the company. But it seems BMW wants to diversify their vehicles and add another series the BMW lineup. The company wants to debut a BMW 4-Series 2014 that will share some of the same characteristics as the 6-Series as to the 5-series. The BMW 4-Series will share many components of the 3-Series but will be its sportier sibling that is offered in the two-door coupe or convertible variation. So it looks like the 3-Series lineup will just be sedans which instantly made me think of the iconic M3. The BMW M3 will just be a sedan? Possibly as the M4 would be the new performance version of the coupe and convertible.

We have seen pictures of the wrapped up BMW 4-Series 2014 in its psychedelic acid-trip livery driving around the streets of Germany. The vehicle appeared to share similar styling cues as the interior as the 6-series. Hopefully the 4-Series won’t share the same goofy front fascia that is a big turnoff of the 6-series for a lot of potential customers. I personally think the redesign of the BMW 3-Series looks far better than E90 generation so I hope that they give the 2014 BMW 4-Series a better defined front fascia that looks less bulbous. I personally, and I think others agree that the previous designs throughout the BMW lineup have affected the company in sales due to designs deemed too contemporary for most and just plain ugly for me.
We will more likely see the powertrain of the BMW 4-Series 2014 share that of the 3-series. This will include the 2.0 L and 3.0 L that we currently see today helping the vehicles to get around 33 miles per gallon on highway. As for the M4, I would expect to see a Turbo V6 that utilizes the company’s twin scroll Turbo technology in direct injection producing somewhere around 400 horsepower. And as usual the Europeans will probably get a diesel version that gets 100mpg and delivers 400lb-ft or torque and we won’t be able to touch it. Look for the price to start in the high 30s or low 40s and quickly skyrocket to the 60’s with the 2014 BMW M4.

2014 BMW X1

The 2014 BMW X1 Is The Little Crossover That Could

2014 BMW X1

BMW has been riding out the popularity of their new X1 model as it is such a hot item in Europe that they had to delay the release of the vehicle for the North American market. As for me I’m particularly not big on the looks of this vehicle as it seems like a masculine station wagon for an effeminate SUV. In reality it is a sort of gender bending vehicle but as you start to think about it makes more and more sense. For individuals such as myself that go out and play whether it is snowboarding, surfing, kayaking, and mountain biking, etc I need an AWD vehicle that can get me there. These outings take an all-wheel-drive vehicle in order to get the best locations although some of the top 10% take an actual four-wheel-drive vehicle. But with vehicles like the 2014 BMW X1 are for the outdoor individual that needs the ability to stow all their gear as well as brave some mild off-road trails. What makes more sense is the fact that most of us are weekend warriors and therefore we need something to get proper fuel economy during the whole week as well as

The 2014 BMW X1 Guts

Word is that the 2014 BMW X1 is going to have the same powertrain as the 2013 BMW 3-series as it looks like those wacky Germans have failed to bring us another diesel. This sucks big time because the 2014 X1 sDrive 20d with efficient dynamics technology getting 63 freaking miles to the gallon. That puts a little damper on the ability to get around 32 miles per gallon which the 2014 X1 with a Turbo 2.8 L will be offering. Although we will get to 240 hp from the engine which should be sufficient but I bet the 2014 X1 with the 3.5 L Turbo will be much more fun to drive as it gets around 31 miles per gallon yet offers 300 hp. Not sure of all the variants that are coming with the X1 such as the efficient dynamics technology or anything else but what I am wishing for is a freaking diesel.

2014 BMW X1 Price and Stuff

The starting price of the 2014 BMW X1 is going to be similar to the prices of the BMW 3- series as it will start off around $34,000 and climb quickly to an M-series that will offer a twin Turbo V8 with 560 hp for $90,000 (kidding). I’m sure that many individuals are looking to purchase this vehicle and instantly slap Yakima racks on the roof. I personally would rather trick out the 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek and save about $10,000 but that’s just me. If they brought a diesel then I might start thinking about it. As I learn more about the BMW X1 2014 I will be updating this page so I don’t have to ramble on about how I wouldn’t buy this vehicle.
