Updated BMW 5-Series gets Optional Customizable Instrument Panel

BMW has announced that its 5 Series for a new model year, the Touring or station wagon and Grand Turismo cars would get a range of upgrades. Now, the company has already presented those upgrades, starting with the new multifunction instrument display to the mechanical update.

The new multifunction instrument display will be available as optional in all 5-Series variants except the 520d EfficientDynamics Edition ActiveHybrid 5 models. The new instrument panel brings along a 10.25-inch display with Black Panel technology.

The common arrangement of regular instrument panel that covers four round gauges is still been retaining is still been retaining on the models. Apart of the Normal mode, the owners are able to choose three more driving modes, including COMFORT, ECO PRO and Sport modes.

In addition, the three modes’ colors and information display that shows the function, status, check control and navigation data can be further adjusted and customized.

The Comfort mode brings a usual layout of four closed round instruments. in the Eco Pro and Sport, on the other hand, the rings open up to show any additional information between the two round instruments.

Especially for the Eco Pro mode, the rev counter becomes an EfficientDynamics display that presents the fuel efficiency the car returns. Moreover, the speed in the Sport setting is showed digitally through a large figure, while the center of the rev counter shows the gear is being selected.

The company will add a new 520d sported by a 2.0 liter turbo diesel with a total output of 181 horses to the 5- Series Grand Turismo range. it is said that the company have also revamped the engines in both the 530 GT and the 550i GT.

Thanks to the upgrade, the 530d GT’s 3.0 liter inline six diesel gains 13 hp or 14 PS and 20 Nm of torque that come to a total output of 255 hp and 560 Nm of peak torque. the company claimed that although the improvement in power but the 530d GT returns more fuel economy at 5.8 lt/ 100km. the BluePerformance technology package that helps in reducing CO2 emission will be offered as optional in July.

The V8 turbocharged 550i GT gains 40 hp of power and 50Nm for a total of 443 ponies and 650 Nm of peak torque. The car is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds sprint time. The CO2 emission is rated at 214g/km, while the fuel consumption is returned at 9.2 lt/ 100 km.

All 5-Series GT models get an Auto Start/Stop system completed with a new electric power steering system and Driving Experience Control with ECO PRO mode as standard feature for the new model year.

An Active Protection Safety Package is offered as a new optional feature. It tighten the seatbelt in order to eliminate slack in a crucial situation. A Parking Assistant system also available that works to park the car itself and monitor the road to find a parking area that at least 1.20 meters longer than the car itself.

a new optional Bang & Olufsen high end surround-sound system and a standard hands-free system will be offered as a new optional package by July this year.
