If the Jaguar F-Type with a supercharged V-6 doesn’t tickle your fancy, then
perhaps spy shots from the Nürburgring of what appears to be the Jaguar F-Type R
– with a V-8 engine under the hood – will be more your speed. Our spy
photographers also snapped photos of a more aggressive-looking XKR-S testing,
possibly previewing a track-ready variant of the already entertaining Jaguar
XKR-S.
Caught playing on the track is what could be the V-8 powered Jaguar F-Type,
sporting quad exhausts. Jaguar confirmed a punchier 5.0-liter V-8 would find its
way under the F-Type’s hood alongside the new 3.0-liter V-6 engine. Specifics
weren’t revealed, but based on the power ratings of existing Jaguar V-8 models,
an F-Type V-8, which could get an “R” moniker, could put out anywhere from 400
hp to more than 500 hp. The normal six-cylinder is expected to be available in
340- and 380-hp variants while a turbocharged four-cylinder model is a
possibility, as well.
The visual changes on the XKR-S are quite obvious. Just take a look at the
canards mounted on the front bumper and the massive rear wing. The prototype
also appears to have a different engine hood with additional air vents, bucket
seats up front, and a lack of rear seats, leading us to believe this isn’t your
average XKR-S. We also suspect more power will complete the car’s track
readiness, and the air vents on the new hood design indicate that a revised
engine may be on the way.
Jaguar is clearly stepping up its game with the F-Type, and an F-Type R could
spice things up in the sub-$100,000 high-performance roadster segment. But do
you think Jaguar also needs a track edition of the XKR-S? Let us know in the
comments section after listening to the F-Type’s supercharged V-6 in the video
