2013 Volkswagen CC

Volkswagen first debuted the CC at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This car has been marketed as a more luxurious offering than the standard Passat. It is also considered a four door coupe so essentially the CC is to the Passat as the Mercedes-Benz CLS is to the E-Class. The 2013 Volkswagen CC has impressive technology and safety features such as, lane assist, fatigue detection, dynamic light assist, climate seat with integrated massage function, LED tail lights, LED license plate illumination and bi-xenon headlights. The LED running lights look inspired by the Audi designs.

Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design for Volkswagen, refreshed the front and rear body sections of the 2013 CC, giving it a more elegant image.

Performance

The Volkswagen CC is available with a total of six engines, four gasoline and two diesels. In the United States the car will launch with 200 horsepower 2.0L TSI (21 city/33 highway mpg) and the 280 horsepower 3.6L VR6 gasoline engines. In the chart below you will see the other engines that are available in Europe. It would be nice if Volkswagen decided to bring one of the 2.0L TDI diesel engines to the United States market. The transmissions available are the six-speed manual or the six-speed DSG automatic.

The Five-Door up! Ready To Conquer The UK

The new five-door Volkswagen up! is now available to order in the UK and is priced £365 ($566) more than the equivalent three-door model.

The five-door up! has the same virtues as its three-door sibling: a 95.27 inches (2.42 m) long wheelbase that makes for impressive interior space despite a diminutive and easy-to-park 139.37 inches (3.54 m) overall vehicle length, an efficient three-cylinder engine, new-to-the-class safety features and an innovative infotainment system.

Rear passengers in the five-door up! benefit from exactly the same space as those in the three-door model. The rear seat base is set slightly higher than that in the front, giving passengers a clearer view of the road ahead.

The five-door range mirrors that of the three-door, with a choice of Take up!, Move up! and High up!

models, plus the special edition up! Black and up! White. Five-door models are expected to make up just over half of all up! sales.

As with the three-door, two BlueMotion Technology versions will also be available, offering sub-100 g/km CO2 emissions. This is a big deal in the UK as it allows the car to be exempt from a special VED eco tax.

The 60 PS Move up! BlueMotion Technology returns 68.9 mpg on the combined cycle, and the 75 PS High up! BlueMotion Technology offers 67.3 mpg.

A fully electric version will join the range in late 2013, and an automated manual gearbox will become optional later in 2012.

The up! is the World Car of the Year 2012, What Car? Car of the Year for 2012, and has also been named TopGear magazine’s Small Car of the Year.

UK deliveries of the five-door up! are expected to start in August.

2013 Volkswagen CC R-Line revealed for US

Volkswagen will unveil the R-Line version of the CC at the Auto Mobil International show in Leipzig on June 1st. This CC model will be available in the U.S. at the end of 2012 with the 200-horsepower, 2.0-liter, turbocharged TSI® engine, mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

With interior and exterior enhancements, the R-Line upgrades make the CC an even sportier vehicle. Compared with the Sport model, the R-Line gains a more aggressive front bumper design that incorporates a large lower air intake and projector-style foglights with a striking chrome motif. Side skirts and the R-Line logo on the grille further differentiate it from the Sport model, along with shaded taillights and unique and dramatic 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. Inside, there are stainless-steel R-Line scuff plates and the multifunction steering wheel for the DSG-equipped model has paddle shifters.

The CC 2.0T R-Line will feature standard Bi-Xenon headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights and the Adaptive Front-lighting System; LED taillights; LED license-plate illumination; rain-sensing windshield wipers; Climatronic® automatic climate-control; heated 12-way power front seats; the touchscreen Premium VIII sound system with HD Radio, eight speakers, and a six-disc CD changer; Bluetooth® technology; iPod® connectivity; and V-Tex leatherette seating surfaces.

The CC was refreshed for the 2013 Model Year, featuring new front and rear styling and an extended range of standard equipment. The 2013 CC went on sale in March and now has seating for five (previous models seated four). The new CC makes an even bolder move towards the automotive luxury class, offering a sleek, dramatic look at a highly attainable price.

Volkswagen XL1 prototype spied in action

This past weekend, the very first pictures of a prototype for the new Volkswagen XL1 were presented right here on WCF. We can now bring you the very first video of the brand new model in motion.

We first saw a preview of the new 1-liter car in concept form back in 2009 when it was unveiled as the L1, then two years later an updated version was shown as the Formula XL1. It is this latter concept that will provide the name for the production version and it is also great to see the design basis has been retained.

The sporty profile of the XL1 prototype caught here is sure to appeal to a wide range of buyers, but unfortunately only a lucky few will get their hands on the model. Volkswagen are expected to produce the XL1 only in limited numbers.

The 1-liter engine emits just 24g/km of CO2 gases and has a very enticing fuel economy figure of 0.9l/km (261 mpg US / 313 mpg UK).

Expect to see the production-ready XL1 unveiled towards the end of the year before deliveries begin in 2013.
