The Honda Accord Legacy

Can Honda Resurrect One of the Most Common Cars?

Honda has been hit with more problems than they would care to divulge. But as we look at this company they have the ability to be on top of the game. The problem is that their vehicles are lacking something, but what? To me Honda has been a conservative company that built the best and though their vehicles lacked frills they did offer peace of mind to the owner. Especially during the late 80’s and 90’s when American cars were almost entirely crap. Today however I believe Honda has the choice to make. Either they find a way to drastically lower the price as the present day Accord as I think it needs to start around 17k for the LX model Accord instead of 22k. I can’t believe that I’m saying this but the Honda Accord LX needs to start out lower than Hyundai and Kia rivals because people are starting to migrate. The Sonata starts under 20k and the KIA Optima starts at 21k and offers 200 hp and better fuel economy and warranty. So if Honda wants to win the battle for sedan supremacy then needs to drop the price of the next Honda Accord or make it more exciting. The fact is that I don’t see a price cut at all coming as Japan exporters are all struggling with the rise of the Yen . So what will Honda do to bring back customers?

The Accord needs to be keeping up with the Joneses

I think that Honda has it in them to offer more performance as well as fuel economy. As the company is super secretive about the upcoming vehicles we can’t tell what they are up to. But what everyone else is in the industry is doing seems to make me think the Honda Accord will follow suit. I am talking about direct injection heads as well as lighter weight engine components and internal parts. This coupled to a CVT transmission or 6-speed manual that will help the vehicle receive 40 mpg. If this is the case then we will start to see more individuals coming back to the Honda Accord.

I also believe they need to extend their warranty as they are Honda and make a great product so I doubt there will be a heap of cars coming in for drivetrain problems between 60k and 100k that haven’t already had issues. Yet this would give potential customers peace of mind when looking to purchase. If all else fails then just give us more power in the Accord.
