Jaguar has been reinventing itself for years lately and I am certainly a fan
boy of the company. When I received word that Tata Motor Company was going to
purchase Jaguar from Ford I thought the company and legacy was simply over. The
reason being is that Ford was doing a pretty good job of running the name down
the crapper themselves but as soon as I laid eyes on the latest generation
Jaguar XJ I was pleasantly surprised. The company is making its way back to
becoming a luxury superpower which is incredibly hard to do. Many luxury car
buyers are purchasing a car by its name recognition and Jaguar has slowly lost
what it had. So in order to gain the name recognition of the company back they
needed to let customers know that these vehicles were simply a car variation of
their cousins, the Land Rovers and Range Rovers as these vehicles have street
credit. So today we see that Jaguar has three main models to choose from thus
being the Jaguar XF, XJ, and XK. So we have the small and large luxury sedans
and the larger luxury coupe but what about an entry level model?
Well it seem Jaguar is going to introduce an entry level sports car and
don’t think for one second that entry level is synonymous with a cheap quality
product that is a wannabe. The 2013 Jaguar F-Type is going to offer some
stellar performance as we have received word that it will be based on an
all-aluminum (ow-you-minion) chassis that will be focused on weight reduction
thus raising all stats. Next we see that a 3.0 V6 will be the base engine and
as you start to thumb your nose at it stop to think about a direct injected and
supercharged 3.0 liter producing around 340 hp. Word is also that there will be
a performance based V6 that will be producing nearly 400 ponies. Then we get to
the 2013 Jaguar F-Type R that will be sporting a 5.0L V8 that will be producing
over 500 horsepower making this an incredibly fast ride. Just the base model
will be producing 0 to 60 times around 5.5 sec so if you slap another 160 hp
then expect some very nice 4 second 0 to 60 times.
As for the price of the 2013 Jaguar F-Type we are expecting an entry level
model priced just under $60,000. As for the Jaguar FR 2013 expect around
$90,000 to be the price tag. It will be interesting to see how fast this baby
goes around the Top Gear track as I am sure we will have a lot of British pride
backing this car as it takes on the likes of the pesky Germans and their
Porsche’s. It will be interesting to see how sales go for the company
especially if we can start seeing deliveries from Lotus and Aston Martin;
specially if the 100 year anniversary edition Aston Martin is built to compete
in this price range.
