Americans are like the rest of the world in the fact that we are tired of gas
prices over $4. There for we need to go back to our roots and purchase a very
capable pick-up that can deliver or efficiency and versatility. If we look at
the Colorado and Canyon we see that the old design was ok but didn’t do enough
to detour individuals away from the Silverado and Sierras. So now what? Will we
see that will make up the MPG’s and bring buyers back to a smaller truck.
Because convincing a truck driving redneck to downsize their truck is like
trying to shrink their disability checks they receive monthly. They will not be
thrilled about having to downsize.
The big news is that Chevrolet is looking to bring over some diesel engines
and place them in the Cruze and Colorado and I’m sure several other GM
variables. A high efficiency and clean burning diesel that could produce 40
MPG’s would drive a lot of customers into Chevy and GMC dealerships. What would
be even cooler is if GM would deliver a CNG version of the Colorado and Canyon
that would offer a duel fuel and not cost a bloody fortune. But we will likely
see three engines to choose from. The base model being the 2.5L that produces
around 190-200 hp. Then a V6 that will hopefully be the 323 hp 3.6 L, that would
certainly get my attention. Then the 2.8 L diesel engine that offers some
impressive low-end torque. Plus with these engines mated to a 6-speed
transmission should help Chevrolet and GMC to possibly gain some efficiency
numbers on the Toyota Tacoma although we haven’t seen the specs for the Tacoma
yet.
With small trucks being unpopular among many potential buyers, Chevrolet and
GMC need to offer their light-trucks with features that are too good to pass up.
If they can do that then we will probably see some impressive sales figures
because if it becomes popular then many will ditch the oversized and inefficient
boxes on wheels for a good looking and powerful displacement. It will be
interesting to see if Ford and Ram decide to re-introduce their light-duty
trucks. We will probably see a special edition Chevy Colorado Off-Road version
that will offer meaty tires and shocks. Also look for some silly graphics to be
fitted to the side of the vehicle. As we find out more about the 2014 arrival of
the Colorado and Canyon, we will make sure and post up the latest info we have.
