If you look at the upcoming 2013 Ford Fusion you think to yourself, wow that is
a great looking sedan what took them so long. That’s the same way I feel like I
will be upon the introduction of the new Mazda 6 2013. Mazda has been
released from the clutches of Ford and is set to bring fuel efficiency as well
as contemporary good looks to its lineup of vehicles. As I watch other
manufacturers making their vehicles uglier by design, I see the Mazda CX-5 and
am amazed as an auto manufacturer designed a vehicle that looks good, is
efficient and versatile. The only thing missing is a diesel engine, but now we
find out Mazda is bringing the SKYACTIV-D to the states. That’s right diesel
fans, it looks as though the Mazda 6 will also be getting the same diesel engine
which looks to produce around 160 hp and a whopping 300 lb-ft of torque. That
should move both of these vehicles quite well and deliver impressive miles per
gallon. Since the introduction of Mazda’s SKYACTIV designs we are seeing lighter
weight vehicles receiving highly efficient engines that utilize lighter yet
stronger internal components as well as higher compression ratios and direct
injection. Plus Mazda has a six-speed automatic transmission that helps keep
engine revs low.
The 2012 Paris Auto Show showed us the Takeri concept that looks to be the
design basis for the upcoming Mazda 6 2013. This concept car looks absolutely
brilliant in my mind and I hope Mazda has the balls to keep their production
vehicle as similar to this as possible. The reason being is that first of all
the 2013 Ford Fusion is going to take up a lot of sales for family sedans so in
order for Mazda to take away some of Ford’s thunder it needs to produce a car
that’s even more attractive and efficient. As for every other family sedan on
the market, manufacturers have gotten so conservative that the vehicles all look
the same and lack all luster. With a 2013 Mazda 6 SKYACTIV-D I would expect to
see some impressive miles per gallon that would come close to around 50 miles
per gallon if not more.
As for the gas burning Mazda6 2013 we will likely see the 2.0L SKYACTIV that
produces 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque being offered as the base engine and
then hopefully a turbo charged version of the engine producing around 263 hp
from a 2.3 L like what was used in the MAZDASPEED3 would be nice for starters.
Either way I am sure we will see two gas options and one diesel for the 2013
Mazda6. Hopefully we will also see as Mazda 6 i-ELOOP that offers electric
capacitors that trap energy created from braking to run automotive electric
accessories that creates a 10% boost in efficiency.
