The 2014 Cadillac ELR

GM is reeling in from poor sales by the Chevy Volt and in order to boost sales of this platform and continue working on perfecting the technology they have to move some vehicles. I personally don’t hate the Volt in fact I think it’s a great idea. What I don’t think is a great idea is the $40,000 price tag. And sure you may say that there is a tax credit that lowers the price down to just under $32,000, but even at $32,000 I believe this vehicle is still too expensive as it needs to be priced between the Prius and Prius PHV the reason being that Chevy does not have a name for hybrid design like Toyota does. So as a result you would expect Chevrolet to implement the technology in a much more affordable package, but they seem to want to do things completely irrational like normal. So for 2014 we will see the Chevy volt getting a coupe designed sibling dubbed the 2014 Cadillac ELR.

From the concept model shown we saw that the Cadillac ELR looks the part of a sporty compact vehicle that is ready for the urban jungle. The lines on this car make it look like it’s ready to break the land speed records yet it will do no such thing due to the fact it is powered by 149 hp powertrain although the foot-pounds of torque are rated at 273. You will still get the 40 mile range that’s all electric therefore making your daily commutes very inexpensive which will be nice because I’m sure this vehicle is going to have a starting price around $50,000 if not more therefore it has to appeal to that large group of buyers that are wealthy, environmentally conscious, not a Toyota fan, likes the contemporary looks of the 2014 Cadillac ELR, hasn’t researched the fact that their taxes probably paid for this vehicle already, and just happens to need a new car. So therefore I’m expecting a whopping four cars so sell and although this vehicle looks great I just don’t see it making sense for anyone unless they’re working on a public relations campaign. Tell us what you think of Cadilliac ELR

I hope I’m wrong when it comes to my pessimistic sales forecast but I think General Motors needs to produce a much cheaper version of this vehicle instead of the Cadillac. I will be surprised however to see if they use this technology in the 2014 Chevy Spark although it looks to be 100% electric vehicle. But either way I hope GM continues to push the envelope but instead of placing a high price on their vehicles they simply consolidate and clean house and get rid of their overhead.
